Newark Airport Parking – How to Save on Your Airport Parking Fees

Newark Airport Parking – How to Save on Your Airport Parking Fees

Newark Airport parking can be a problem to the ill-prepared passenger due to the sheer volume of travelers using the airport. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), along with JFK International Airport (New York Kennedy), and LaGuardia International Airport (LGA), comprises the busiest airport system in the United States. The EWR-JFK-LGA network, which serves the metropolitan New York-New Jersey area, is 2nd only to the London airport network in terms of total passengers handled each year. In 2009, over 35 million passengers traveled through Newark Liberty airport.

There are over 17,000 Newark Airport parking spaces available to airport workers, passengers, and the general public. This number includes hourly, short-term, and long-term parking, both within the airport complex and off-airport locations. Parking at Newark Airport shouldn’t be a problem, once you know your options.

Short-term or hourly EWR parking is available at Newark Airport parking lots A, B, and C and costs $3 for 30 minutes or $6 per hour, with a daily cap of $33. This is actually the best and most convenient option since the lots are located right to the central terminal, if you’re just sending off or picking up someone and will be at the airport for no more than 1 or 2 hours.

Three nearby Newark Airport parking facilities provide daily parking rates, which are significantly lower than the short-term rates above. Daily parking at lots P1 and P3 is $24. Daily parking at the airport garage designated as P4 is slightly more expensive at $27. This is still a good option because of the convenient locations, if you’ll be gone for no more than a day or two.

Newark Airport long-term parking should be your choice for longer trips, like a 7-day Florida vacation, for example. The airport offers a long-term economy parking lot (P6), located at the northern side of the airport along Port St. Parking here costs around $18 per day, which is still expensive, especially if you’re looking at a 2-3 weeks travel itinerary.

Your next option, if you’re trying to save as much off your airport parking expense, would be the off-airport private lots and garages. There are several nearby premium parking facilities that you might want to check out like Avistar and AirPark facilities along McClellan St and the Avistar and FastTrack locations along Carnegie Ave. These are high-standard parking lots and garages serviced by shuttle in 10-15 minutes interval, are well-staffed and equipped to assist handicapped passengers, and provide 24 hour service and security. FastTrack’s Sky Park facility offers the most competitive rates, but you should check the individual garages for discounts, coupons, and free parking promotions which are available to frequent flyers on a daily basis.

In any case, check and confirm the rates before you place your reservation. You can ask questions about security, valet service, shuttle intervals, rate differences within the garage, rate promotions on weekdays, etc. Once you’ve picked your Newark Airport parking location, don’t forget to book it, before your actual flight. Air travel to a business or pleasure destination is always something that most people, even the most jaded of travelers, enjoy. Don’t let worries about airport parking ruin the experience for you.
